Islam Times - Saudi Arabia's King dismisses a top Scholar in Riyadh

This is actually interesting. While I was living in Saudi Arabia last year, a petition was filed to allow women to drive. 500 women signed it. A week later, 5000 women said they didn't want to drive.
Ironically the educated classes, including the King and others in royalty within Saudi Arabia have been trying to steer the country toward greater equality with sexes. This university is one example and if you walk through National Guard Hospital (took me 2.5 hours to walk from one side to another), you'd never guess you were in Saudi Arabia. People from over 50 nations work there, English is the professional language and men and women work side by side. It's the people of Saudi Arabia that have been fighting it, not the government. This is actually a very brave stance for the king to make.

I must say it's much easier to identify where people are from in the US than in England for me. While in England they told me I had an accent! Moi? No way! I speak perfect Western American English. Oh, I guess that means I do have an accent!

Right-Wing Hatemongering Fueled by Christianity? | Belief | AlterNet

If you're Christian like I am, you've probably noticed the increasing chasm in our faith. It's become a faith of hatred, racism, war...the exact opposite of Christ. The problem is Dispensationalism, a new reading of scripture that started in 1832. This is not Christianity. It uses Christianity and nearly half of American Christians have fallen for it. Nearly all 'Christian' programming and publications promote this. Most, but not all Evangelical churches have become swallowed by it. Largest mainline churches that have gone over to the dark side of dispensationalism are the Southern Baptists, Calvary Chapel, Four Square, most of the non-denominational community churches. They attract the most religious. It becomes a cult feeding upon itself and its victims, the church-goers lap up the promises of non-biblical ideas like rapture and non-christian ideas such as returning to the old covenant. I made the mistake of joining a Christian group on Linked In. It was so full of dispensationalists and people giddy on war, Israel and hating Arabs, Palestinians, Muslims and Catholics, I left after two months. Reason doesn't work with them because if their belief system is shown for what it is, then question everything. It's a convenient scapegoat. This article gives you the background. Fortunately 2/3's of the people in the US have not been brainwashed by this. We can reverse it, I just hope it happens before these people through their support of wars and worship of political powers, destroy the US and Israel. They will. War, death and destruction in hopes of forcing a second coming is all they care about. They're willing to kill, and they do kill. Their weapons are our military, our nuclear military.

Step one is out of the way for me looking to working in international affairs and Public Relations for the US Government overseas and if the articles they included on the FSOT are any indication of the general writing by embassy staff, oh boy do they need me!
Turns out I sweat the test for no reason. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Finished it in under 2-hours.

If you have kids that are in roommate situations or are looking to sublet a room
or rent an apartment, please read this and get it out there. I don't want to
see this happen to anyone else. I didn't lose much money but I did lose the
time I needed to find a roommate and that's costing me big time. It ends with a
threat and some pretty vile language. Feedback is always appreciated.

Robert Fisk is my favorite journalist and I just love the satire that sings through this piece. I guess like a lot of people I hoped things would be different with Obama. That my nation is trying to squash the UN report noting Israel's ever increasing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Palestine shouldn't surprise me. But it does. It shouldn't surprise me because we're doing many of the same things in Iraq and Afghanistan, which means if Israel is guilty, we're guilty too. So of course we have to bury that and pretend that what we're doing is righteous and correct. There is nothing righteous about the conduct of my nation or Israel in the Middle East. Maybe, as Fisk points out here the Canadians will figure out they need to abandon this train wreck an stop siding with the problem in both areas.

Islam Times - Disengaging America from the Israel Lobby

Wow! she's harsher than me but what she says is true. Even if it is blunt.
The real tragedy is this. Because the state of Israel insists upon tying itself to the faith of Judaism, despite the fact there is very little that is Jewish about its conduct, it's inadvertently tainting the image of Judaism and by default, those who identify with the faith culturally or religiously. This is setting up those who call themselves Jewish for future hatred and persecution. It's inevitable. You cannot destroy a people and a country for more than half a century and hope to escape the justice history always delivers. Some realize this and are trying to change it. Most do not and continue to support, act as apologists and promote Zionism. I fear this because I see what happens to people when their eyes are opened about Zionism. They either do something about it or they become so angry that anger turns to hate. Justice is the only way out of this. Unfortunately that is the one exit strategy that is never discussed.

The deal here is resources: gold, oil, diamonds, water and most important, colton which comes from three countries and is necessary for electronics like cell phones to work. We want them. China wants them so rather than fight each other face to face or do the right thing which is to bargain with the owners and set a fair market price without support corruption, our two nations are going to duke it out in Africa. A few will get rich, most Africans will suffer and Americans will continue our disposable lifestyles.
