recently a dear and true friend (and fellow SU user) RUMDOODLE passed away...

it took the loss of a person with such life and joy and spirit to draw me back for a moment into this binary world.
for those that knew J, even a little, you know what a loss it is... and yet he died with his boots on, as he wished.

what do i think he would want you to know? that there are real people here, if you are real.
but most importantly that you should reach around, unplug, head outdoors and fall into nature--
alone AND with real people.

now.

because tomorrow is never promised and only nature is real.

thanks, Rums, for reminding me all these years--i finally figured it out, and as requested...

With No Frills or Tuition, a College Draws Notice - NYTimes.com

"Berea College, founded 150 years ago to educate freed slaves and 'poor white mountaineers,' accepts only applicants from low-income families, and it charges no tuition.

At Berea College, in Kentucky, the Ecovillage houses one-parent families. Josh Noah, 21, a senior Appalachian studies major from Mount Airy, N.C., fertilizing the Ecovillage's vegetable beds.

'You can literally come to Berea with nothing but what you can carry, and graduate debt free,' said Joseph P. Bagnoli Jr., the associate provost for enrollment management.

'We call it the best education money can't buy.'

Actually, what buys that education is Berea's $1.1 billion endowment, which puts the college among the nation's wealthiest. But unlike most well-endowed colleges, Berea has no football team, coed dorms, hot tubs or climbing walls. Instead, it has a no-frills budget, with food from the college farm, handmade furniture from the college crafts workshops, and 10-hour-a-week campus jobs for every student.

Berea's approach provides an unusual perspective on the growing debate over whether the wealthiest universities are doing enough for the public good to warrant their tax exemption, or simply hoarding money to serve an elite few. As many elite universities scramble to recruit more low-income students, Berea's no-tuition model has attracted increasing attention.

'Asking whether that's where our values lead us is a powerful way to consider what our values are...'

it's that time of year when some stumblers can't help but mate...
with one another. already having mated with other stumblers before.

so don't forget to use protection, be it: trojans, 9mm, restraining orders... or most especially effective: good sense, good friends, and earned trust.

i have a bit of a problem, stumblers.

you see, there is a movie i adore. in fact, i smile like a moron during most of it, EVERYTIME. but if i tell you what it is, or why i like it, you'll just want to go to youtube or wiki or imdb and get more info before viewing it, thereby ruining the best part...

and the ONE thing i regret about this film is ever only being able to enjoy the plot unfolding before me ONCE without knowing the outcome.

so, if you appreciate my taste, or are in the mood for something different, or are just morbidly curious, try it.

just don't be the consummate stumbler and research it first? you might thank me later.

oh, and some of you will HATE IT--life is like that.

FILM: PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE
DIRECTOR: PT Anderson
CAST: Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Luis Guzman
ARTIST: Jeremy Blake
YEAR: 2002

some of these are clever, but what about a nightmare of the neverending cubicle ant farm, or the beautiful lady who gets trapped in a reflected hall of her own images, or the land where men are indiscernible from women... and let's not forget the one where we turn into our OWN parents--shiver!
