A couple of days ago, I went on a citytrip to Madrid. Bad time of year of course. Last saturday and sunday the temperature rose to a whopping 39 and 40 degrees celcius.

Because of the heat, it was my most relaxed trip ever. Usually I cram too much sightseeing, museums etc in one day. Now I had to take it easy because of the extreme weather. Much to the relief of my travel companion ;)

Aside from that, Madrid was a bit disappointing. For a capital, there isn't really much to see. Especially when you compare it with for instance Lisbon. The tree big art museums (Reina Sofia, Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza: absolutely fabulous by the way, no complaints here), royal palace, the rastro, a couple of churches and monasteries and that was it...

I was hoping there would be a museum or a memorial for the victims of the Spanish civil war and the Franco reign, but again nothing ... Looks like I'll have to do a little research myself.

An ode to my favorite flower by Arti Chopra

The Poppy Field

tall, bright, red poppies in profusion,
the first glimpse, just took my breath away,
standing proudly among the brown grass,
so proudly did they sway.

droopingly delicate green stems,
swaying softly with the breeze,
filelds and fields of glorious colour,
bewitched the mind, as they teased.

blue skies, warm golden sun,
and the poppy fields below,
only nature with her magic brush,
could put on such a show.

buzzing bees, flitting about
drunk on nectar sweet,
and me, walking through the poppies,
what a glorious heavenly treat...

more of scarlet, sometimes pink,
scattered in profusion,
eagerly I gathered them in delight,
knowing it was no illusion.

the wind lifted my spirits high,
the poppies nodded in harmony,
and as I lay down on the grass,
I listened to nature's symphony.

music divine in the breeze,
throbbing drumbeats in my ears,
the heavenly sight scent of the poppy fields
would leave its memorybehind for years.

Busy busy times. Graduated yet again! Appart from a master in psychology, I'm now officcialy also a master in world religions, interreligious dialogue and religious studies!

Sadly the time is also here to put student life behind me and to start the difficult queste for a job..

Luckely, I discovered the joys (and addicting nature) of stumbleupon again. During the following weeks many updates are to be expected.

Just finished reading 'Dream brother: the lives and music of Jeff and Tim Buckley'. It's a very well written book. I particularly liked the alternating chapters on Jeff and Tim's life. While reading it, I was struck by the similarities between their lives and untimely deaths. Both were such incredibly talented musicians. If only...
