I'm in Japan until the 29th...in the meantime, please visit my friends, start a new hobby, get naked, howl at the moon, ingest ergot and/or deepfry some twinkies and feed them to people you're troubled by..... apart from that just be kind and forgive those you can and bark at those you can't.
--Presented with a copy of Wilhelm Reich's new book The Function of the Orgasm, Freud remarked "So thick?"

--Oscar Wilde: "All bad poetry springs from genuine feeling."
My teacher's teacher, Mumon Roshi......

Unity Attained:
Who dares to equal him
Who falls into neither being nor non-being!
All men want to leave
The current of ordinary life,
But he, after all, comes back
To sit among the coals and ashes.

Rita was sixteen years... hazel eyes and chestnut hair
She made the Woolworth counter shine
Eddie was a sweet romancer, and a darn good dancer
They'd waltz the aisles of the five and dime

[Chorus:]
They'd sing, "Dance a little closer to me... dance a little closer now
Dance a little closer tonight
Dance a little closer to me... it's closing time
And love's on sale tonight at this five and dime

Eddie played the steel guitar and his mama cried 'cuz he played in the bars
And kept young Rita out late at night
So, they married up in Abilene... lost a child in Tennessee
Still, that love survived

[Chorus]

One of the boys in Eddie's band... took a shine to Rita's hands
So, Eddie ran off with the bass man's wife
Oh' but he was back by June... singin' a different tune
And sportin' Miss Rita back by his side

[Chorus]

Eddie traveled with the barroom bands... till arthritis took his hands
Now he sells insurance on the side
Rita's got a house to keep... dime store novels and a love so sweet
They dance to the radio late at night

[Chorus]

[Repeat 1st verse]

They'd waltz the aisles of the five and dime
They'd waltz the aisles of the five and dime

Brother Pele's in the back
Sweet Seena's in the front
Cruising down the freeway
In the hot, hot sun
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfJe8hQ8ha0

Suddenly red blue lights
Flash us from behind
Loud voice
"all will please step out onto the line"

Pele breathes words of comfort
Seena just hides her eyes
Policeman taps his shades
Is that a Chevy 69?

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Destination unknown
As we pull in for some gas
A freshly pasted poster
Reveals a smile from the pack

Elephants and acrobats,
Lions next monkey
Pele speaks righteous
Sister Seena says funky

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

Ringmaster steps up
Says the elephants left town
People jump and jive
And the clowns inch back around

T.V. news and cameras
There's choppers in the sky
Marines, police, reporters
Ask the where, for and why

Pele yells "we're outta here"
Seena says "right on"
Make your moves and starting grooves
Before they knew we're gone

Jump into the Chevy
Headed for big lights,
Want to know the rest
Hey, buy the rights,

How bizarre
How bizarre
How bizarre

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face
It's in my face

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

Ooh baby, (ooh baby)
It's making me crazy, (it's making me crazy)
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
Look around
Everytime I look around
It's in my face

Yoshida, Toshi, 1911-1995

Toshi studied oil painting with his father Yoshida Hiroshi (who did some unbelieveable american west coast scenes) and block carving with Maeda Yujiro. He's the best colorist (for my taste) of any of the Shin Hanga (new prints makers)

Restless Night

As bamboo chill drifts into the bedroom,
Moonlight fills every corner of our
Garden. Heavy dew beads and trickles.
Stars suddenly there, sparse, next aren't.

Fireflies in dark flight flash. Waking
Waterbirds begin calling, one to another.
All things caught between shield and sword,
All grief empty, the clear night passes.
