Don't vote Palin, she encourages the destruction of America's last wilderness frontier! Google it, she encourages killing wolves and polar bears in ways that are against the law. Imagine what would happen to America's last pure wilderness if she becomes vice president! We all need to stop and seriously think about our impact on the environment before it's too late. Gaia won't tolerate much more of our disrespect, we are at a turning point as far as the environment is concerned.

I have given up on Vista. From a usability standpoint, it is not that much different from XP that would merit the upgrade. The "security" features in Vista, I have already been using for years now (SPYBOT) - using 3rd party products that are open source or freeware. Readyboost can already be implemented in XP using an inexpensive alternative (EBOOSTR). The Aero theming engine is just annoying at times what with the amount of ram it uses. I like having Windows Media Center but truthfully there are other programs that play media better than WMP and WMC, VLC does just fine and Songbird instead of iTunes is a winner. You can also check out MediaPortal if you want a Media Center experience. The breadcrumb style navigation can be had for XP using QT Address Bar and while you are at it, add QT Tab Bar so you can use Tabs in Windows Explorer just as you do in Firefox! The sidebar has been around for awhile now for XP, you just gotta' decide if you want the Google offering or Desktop Sidebar as your favorite. Obviously if the Vista Eye Candy is all that matters to you then I will point you to Stardock.com to fufill your needs. I've seen Windows7 previews on YouTube, and visually, it looks the same as Vista, which wasn't all that stunning to begin with ... you decide - I'm heading toward Linux and using virtualization for Windows on my next PC project. I mean afterall, there are only a few Windows apps that I MUST have, so running Windows in a virtual PC would be just fine with me. Goodbye Windows, it's been a long, sometimes enjoyable road since MSDOS 6.22 but I'm too tired to chase down your deficiencies any longer, I've got real work to do ...

Ok, I hate to sound like a noob but I just happened upon a Compiz Themes website and was astonished to see how EASY it was to apply a new theme to (k)Ubuntu!

I have used Linux in the past with some success. I can remember my first Linux install that went well, it was Corel Linux which I acquired at the bargain bin at Best Buy for a mere $1.99. I was intrigued by the fact that I could run a different OS other than Windows so I went for it. I believe it was running an early version of KDE, but most of my hardware wouldn't work with it, like my network, sound, and video.

BUT Linux has come leaps and bounds from those early stages. Don't take my word for it, just search around for the info you want. It's too easy these days.

Anyway, I just logged onto my Kubuntu box and was a little dismayed at the lack of theme choices in Emerald Theme Manager. I know, in Emerald you can easily make your own themes, but I don't really want to do that. In Windows, I would simply download a file from Wincustomize and Stardock WindowBlinds would open it up and let me use it. That's what I wanted. Point > Click > Apply. I know that's so noob so please forgive, I'm just being lazy.

Well, Compiz-Themes.Org has the same features. Download > Emerald Theme Manager > Import Theme < DONE! Very nice. I had a new look to my desktop in seconds.

UPDATE
Just a notification that I am currently using Kubuntu 8.04 Full Time as my Desktop computer now so expect to see related posts. I'm also running Vista Home Premium on my newest laptop. If you read that article you will see that I am testing whether or not to switch over from XP to Vista on a permanent basis ... Well ... After reading about the latest (k)Ubuntu got me thinking of saying goodbye to Windows period. So now my My Vista Reality Check article will become "My Windows Reality Check" instead. To say the least, I am very impressed with Kubuntu, in a just a few hours, I had my XP Desktop computer dual booting with Linux and automatic mounting of my Windows partitions made me happy as can be. I installed a few programs I use regularly in XP, such as; Picasa, Google Earth, Firefox, Open Office (included). I suddenly realized I didn't need to do much else yet. I mean afterall, I could play ALL my music with Amarok (which I love), could also chat/IM using Kopete using any/all of my accounts from AIM, MSN, GTALK, Yahoo! SO what is next? I will be seeking alternatives to everything that I currently use in XP and seeking out comparable programs for Linux and where there is no compare - I will give Wine a try or maybe my XP will end up being run in a virtual (VirtBox) PC so I can still access my favorite applications.
