This is disgraceful. It's disheartening enough to think that kids are not learning about it in school (or at least aren't absorbing it), but don't parents talk to their kids anymore??? Pre-teens and teens seem to be more interested in their latest World of Warcraft escapades than they are in the real world around them. Every night, we sit with our kids at the table with the TV off for our dinner meal. And we talk. About stuff. About food, and grades, and the weather, and the latest recess dramas, and cultural belching practices...and about the somewhat significant, one would think, details about life and the universe: ohhhh, like the fact that Hitler was not a German football coach and Auschwitz was not a WWII theme park.

I made these tilapia pitas for dinner last night, and they were exceptionally good. Even my 12-year-old son wolfed one down and asked for another. The combination of flavours -- the zing of the cayenne, the sweetness of the dressing, the saltiness of the feta -- is scrumptious. I left out the anchovies, though -- ew.

I spent an hour at the Hello Kitty store at the Mall of America this summer, picking out Chococat paraphernalia for my daughter's first year of school. I had to be lured out of the store with promises of hashbrowns and peanutbutter cups (long story). I think I like "Hello Kidney" even better. :-)

Now if I could just convince hubby to wear these. Ha.
