Well folks, I am back from attending an early TEA* Party near me. This one was held on April 14 whereas most are being held around the country on April 15 or later. Not only did I get a chance to let my voice be heard, but I also got the thrill of seeing at least a couple thousand people join with me to proclaim that we are *TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

If you have not attended one, think about attending one soon.

Hello everyone!

I need to address a problem here. When I am your friend in this medium, I don't mind hearing about your work. With sincere interest, I like to hear about fellow stumblers and their lives, work, families, etc. HOWEVER.... when you ask me to friend you and I do then the first heifer out of the shoot from you is a missal length letter in my message box plugging your job/company/current product you are selling, I am truly turned off. NO, I am NOT going to sell my car through your company in INDIA.... or Spain, or Kenya, or New Zealand. And NO, I am NOT in need of nutritional advice and products sold locally by you in INDONESIA.... or Mexico, or Ireland, or Russia. If I recall correctly, this medium is NOT here to serve as your business Rolodex.

I am not a business person, but my guess is this is not the best medium for you to do stuff like that. If you truly wish to plug your product, find another way to do it. I wish you well in your business ventures. I really do. But don't do it here and PLEASE don't do it to me.

I hope your day is going well.

Thanks!

MrsA

I love to knit and always have. I do some crochet work too. My stuff is usually understated and of good yarn or thread. Often, I will give my handiwork away to others. Sometimes I don't even know the people well. But I usually recognize a need and give to them because I love creating. I love giving even more than that.

Case in point. My family worships at a very large church. For years, MrA and I have attended the second service and sit in the balcony in the same two seats. We have seen people come and go throughout the years. Different people will be around us depending on where they are serving in the church. About five years ago, a couple a little younger than us started sitting two rows down from us. We greeted them every Sunday, but did not get to know them beyond that. About 2 1/2 years ago, I noticed a bump on the belly of the lady. As I did not want to offend, I did not inquire until it was MOST obvious that she was indeed pregnant. As it turned out they had several teens--all girls--and this baby they were expecting was not only a surprise baby, but he would be their only son. He was to be born in November 2006. Well... I went home and went through my massive stash where I found enough wool to make an oatmeal heather colored cable sweater for a toddler boy. I knitted away and completed it. I bought and attached some handsome wood buttons. There was even a couple extra buttons which were sewn onto the inside seam so Mom could attach as others got lost. I have to say it was one very nice looking sweater for a little guy. And I know it was well constructed. My pleasure was in creating the sweater.

Then, one Sunday around January 2007, I went by the baby's nursery department at church and left the gift in his diaper bag along with a note telling who gave the sweater. We got the standard thank you note a week or two later. My satisfaction was in receiving a proper thank you.

Today--a Sunday in the middle of December 2008--the Mom stopped me in the hall at church. The Mom and Dad went on to serve in some other capacity at the church and so we rarely see each other. Just as her appearance had changed some, so had mine. So, she made sure I was the one who had knitted the sweater for her son. When I indicated I was, she went on to tell me that her little guy gets compliments on the sweater every time he wears it. My pure delight was in knowing my efforts were truly appreciated.

Through effort and patience, it is my fortune to create. I have the privilege to give. The gift back to me is knowing that what I give is both acknowledged and appreciated.

I have heard TWICE today that now that the Michelle Obama (along with her husband, the President-elect and their two kids) are headed for the White House, people are going to start copying the First Lady's fashions. Supposedly emulation of that sort has not been done since Jackie Kennedy lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue from 1961 to 1963.

To that, I say POPPYCOCK!!!!! I have been doing it for a long time. I have been dressing like Barbara Bush for years and years and YEARS!!!

I got this today from my friend who along with the other 7 million people in this part of the country went through Ike and now is going through Ike's aftermath. It is so totally appropriate for those who go through any bad storm and related aftermath.

*********

*_Things Ike taught me_*

Coffee and frozen pizzas can be made on a BBQ grill.

Hot pockets taste pretty good deep fried on the outdoor cooker!

My car gets 23.21675 miles per gallon, EXACTLY (you can ask the people
in line who helped me push it).

*He who has the biggest generator wins.*

There are a lot more stars in the sky than most people thought.

*TV is an addiction and the withdrawal symptoms are painful.*

A 7 lb bag of ice will chill 6 sodas to a drinkable
temperature in 11 minutes, and still keep a 14 lb. turkey frozen for 8
more hours.

*There are a lot of dang trees around here.*

Flood plain drawings on some mortgage documents were seriously wrong..

*People will get into a line that has already formed without having any
idea what the line is for.*

Cell phones work when land lines are down, but only as long as the
battery remains charged.

Hampers were not made to contain such a volume.

If my store sold only ice, chainsaws, gas and generators...I'd be rich.

Waterfront property can quickly become someone else's fishing hole.

Tree service companies are underappreciated.

I learned what happens when you make fun of another states' blackout.

MATH 101: 30 days in month, minus 6 days without power equals 30% higher
electric bill ?????

*Drywall is a compound word, take away the 'dry' part and it's worthless.*

I can walk a lot farther than I thought.

A MUST for all blackouts with kids... GLOWSTICKS! Cheap, fun, no mess!

A skateboard and a sheet make a great "sailboat" before the rain starts.

It is a great time to teach the children the fine art of gambling (penny
ante poker).

You can never have too many gas cans!

*If you fill the bathtubs with water, the water will not go off.*

7 dogs that do not normally live together still do not get along during
a hurricane. They have no comprehension of sharing.

5 gallons of sweetened iced tea a day is not enough for 9 teenagers.

*Neighbors are much more sociable when they are sharing a generator.*

Two-year-old canned beets taste better than you'd think.

*What looks acceptable by candlelight in your bathroom will scare you
when you look at yourself in the mirror at the office.*

Coffee is possible without Starbucks.

*Rather than campfires, you find families huddled about tiny
battery-operated televisions to watch The Simpsons.*

Peanut butter and jelly is a perfectly acceptable meal for breakfast,
lunch and dinner in the same day.

*Don't shun those who use Tylenol PM or Advil PM to get through 11-hour
nights.*

*That neighbor who knows how to use a chainsaw is your new best friend.*

Ice is a form of currency.

It's OK to let the kids keep their stick fort until the debris-pickup
crews start rolling in.

Coming home from work with a pizza and a charged-up laptop so the kids
can watch a DVD makes you a hero.

You run out of things to barbecue after Day 2.

We don't want to hear rehashes of ball games we missed or be reminded
that we may miss the season premiere of Dexter at 8 p.m. Sunday on
Showtime.

Hair can dry without a blow dryer, but it may not look the way you planned.

The storm treasures your kids are finding really belong to your neighbors.

When George Noory's Coast to Coast AM returns to KTRH's late-night
lineup, we sleep better.

*Baseball caps go with any post-hurricane ensemble.*

*You can't train yourself not to flip on light switches when entering a
room.*

Lukewarm is the new cold.

You have neighbors.

It's easier to ignore a dirty floor when you can't see it.

*A new opening phrase when seeing someone: "Got lights yet?"*

It is no secret. Neither the man nor his family have ever been my favorite, but I would not wish this on anyone. Malignant brain tumors are nothing trivial and no doubt shake the very earth on which any patient and his or her family precariously tread. May God Almighty, the Great Physician bless Senator Edward Kennedy and his family as they travel the bumpy road on which they currently find themselves.
Doctors Say Usual Course of Treatment Is Radiation and Chemotherapy
Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor after suffering a seizure over the weekend.
(David Hume Kennerly/Getty Image)

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday that preliminary biopsy results showed a malignant glioma in the left parietal-lobe. It was detected after Kennedy, 76, was airlifted to Boston on Saturday after having a seizure at his Cape Cod home.

The usual course of treatment includes combinations of radiation and chemotherapy, but Kennedy's treatment will be decided after more tests.

"He has had no further seizures, remains in good overall condition, and is up and walking around the hospital," said a joint statement issued by Dr. Lee Schwamm, vice chairman of the Department of Neurology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Dr. Larry Ronan, Kennedy's primary care physician.

When she was a girl, she loved pink roses and white carnations. She enjoyed the peppery smell of the carnations. The pink roses really did her auburn hair a visual compliment. When she went on special dates and to dances, she would wear a wrist corsage of pink roses or white carnations along with her puffy tulle dresses of the signature colors of her youth. When she married my Dad, she carried pink roses and white carnations. When she had babies or was hospitalized for some other reason, there would be at least one arrangement of pink roses and white carnations. Year after year, pink roses and white carnations came with anniversaries and Mothers's Day and birthdays. In the yard of every house where she lived, there was at least one pink rose bush. When she died, there was a huge spray of pink roses and white carnations on her casket. Now, whenever I see the floral combination of pink roses and white carnations, I think of Mother.

If you happen see your own Mom this Mother's Day weekend, make sure you tell her you love her, hug her neck and kiss her cheek. If you can't get by to see her, at least call and let her know just how special she is to you.
