Hi, I'm back. Actually, I haven't gone anywhere -- I simply have forgotten about this feature of SU: post to your own blog.

Meanwhile, I've been stumbling on a regular basis this summer, adding friends, and getting added as a friend. Thank you everyone who has added me and, especially to people who have taken the time to leave a comment, for helping out in that way too.

I did get away for a few days earlier this month and did that without lugging my laptop with me. I think this was the first time in four years or so that I didn't log on -- it was great to relax on the beach for five days and not concern myself with emails, blogging, comments, etc. I really do think that we spend too much time chained to our computers and that the occasional respite is healthy.

As we enter the final weeks of summer here in the Northern Hemisphere, I hope that you've been able to catch a break or two as well. Before you know it, the fall buzz will unfold and then, Christmas, followed by a new year!

Best to All,
Matt

My wife and I don't get to the movies all that often, so when we do, we're very selective as to which movies we choose. We seem to attend more movies with our children in tow then we do alone, but on occasion we are able to find the time to see a flick worth viewing by ourselves.

This past week we saw, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and enjoyed the movie immensely. I wrote a review about the movie on my WordJourney blog, so I won't rehash those details here. However, I will underscore that the movie was well done, a Christian allegory that shares the gospel message on the big screen.

Speaking about WordJourney, this is my devotional blog that I launched late last year. I haven't shone the light on it all that much as I prefer to simply share what is on my heart and let people discover what God has shown me. Comments are turned off because the site is more my personal journal than anything else, but I invite you to visit it for inspiration.

It is now official: I find people are funny.

Well, not funny in the humorous sense but in the social media sense.

For example, if you want me to stumble something, all you have to do is ask. If I like it, it will get stumbled -- if I don't, it won't. Best of all, if I love it I'll leave a comment and I may even leave a tag or two or three.

Lately, I've been getting stumble requests from the same people every day. Though I may find your information to be good, you'd do better asking me less often, perhaps no more than two or three times per week and finding other people to stumble your pages.

I'm an active stumbler, but I'd rather share the wealth instead of putting it all into a couple of pockets. The best way to contact me for a stumble is with the "Send to" feature -- I'm having a difficult time keeping up with all of my email as it is.

Ciao for now!

Thank you everyone for stumbling my pages. I have found quite a bit of good information via StumbleUpon, and I appreciate the many people I have come into contact with since I joined SU in January 2007.

Recently, I went through my "Friends" information and purged more than 50 people who haven't been active with SU for many months. I made a few exceptions, but for the most part anyone who isn't active with SU has been removed. I know, how cold of me: however, I'm finding it easier to manage my contacts and this is what works best for me. Besides, for some people we're finally mutual friends.

For those of you who write for a living, I want to draw your attention to an article I wrote today concerning About.com. About, which is owned by The New York Times, publishes online guides covering a number of topics including cities, food, lifestyles, and more. Their base pay amount is very competitive and with strong traffic a guide could even make a living off of their work.

I'm writing this as a follow up to the article, which was written by me a few days ago but went live this morning -- I have applied to become a guide and am awaiting their response. I won't go into details right now, but it is something that may be of interest to you, so please check it out. I'll be posting an update to my blog in a few weeks to let everyone know what happened with my query.

I don't post all that much to my StumbleUpon blog, but I felt that I needed to do so today.

One of my favorite SU past times is to stumble through the photographs that are bookmarked here. What stunning colors and amazing subject matters I am finding, allowing me to get a glimpse at places from all across the globe. I am impressed by the hard work exerted by not quite a few photographers, knowing that their craft is not always appreciated. Let this be my message of thanks to you!

My only negative comment are those photographs whose splash pages take too long to load. Visually attractive, some sites move too slowly for my tastes. I think some photographers would be better served by simply eliminating any hindrances which keep visitors from enjoying their workmanship on page load.

What's with the dinosaur you ask? It is my lighthearted attempt to show that I am older than the average social media participant. Although I am not quite extinct, I picked Dino as my photo to remind me to have a good laugh every now and then.

As far as the prop goes, you can find him at the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, NC.
