Man - doesn't that just chap your ass? I've always been behind space exploration 100%, but... jesus guys. Pick something and _stick_the_f***_with_it! Don't develop something 75% of the way and then decide that it's not worth finishing because it might not be able to do _everything_ it was supposed to. And why the hell do they let _politicians_ decide this stuff? I wouldn't trust most politicians to be able to tie their own shoes, let alone make intelligent decisions about space hardware. Our only hope is in private development of space. I've been waiting my whole life to see _people_ exploring the solar system and beyond, and where are we now? When the shuttle is retired in a couple of years, we won't even be able to get anybody into orbit without paying the Russians to do it. And who here thinks that "Constellation" will actually be carried through to a working product? They'll have some cost overruns, or some shady sub-contractor will screw something up and blow up the prototype and they'll dump the whole thing, or the political winds will shift and somebody will make off with the funding for some dumb-ass, pork-barrel project that achieves _nothing_. *sigh

NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, has returned its first imagery of the Apollo moon landing sites. Pretty cool. You can see the trails left by the astronauts between the landing craft and the instruments they set up. And the LRO isn't even in its final (lower) orbit yet!

Food Industry Is Making AMERICA FAT - oversized food portions - Brief Article | USA Today (Society for the Advancement of Education) | Find Articles at BNET

Although I feel that people should take responsibility for their own actions, I think the food industry should be liable for creating a "constructive nuisance". Nobody that spends $33 BILLION a year on marketing and promotion is out to help people. They should be required to place warnings on their menus just like cigarettes and booze have had for many years: "Warning - Eating all this crap will make you FAT!" I find it pretty amazing when I compare serving sizes from fifty years ago to those today. Some of the "super value meals" they sell today would have fed a family of five in 1950.

When the going gets tough, employers take the opportunity to turn the screws on job applicants. Personally, I think the proper response to most of the "interviewing" techniques described is a swift kick in the balls and an abrupt departure.
