I was looking at a new Internet service on the bell website when a chat window popped up! I'm not kidding, a chat window popped up asking me to chat with a salesperson. The conversation went as follows:

A chat representative will be with you in about 0 minute(s). Thank you for waiting.

Chat representative Kelly has joined the session and is ready to help. To start, please provide your name and home phone number.

Kelly: Hello, thank you for visiting bell.ca. How may I help you today?

You: looking at the rural service

Kelly: May I have your name and contact number for better interaction?

You: My name is Carl

You: You may not have my number

Kelly: Carl, are you an existing customer to Bell?

You: Yes

Kelly: May I know what are the services do you already have from Bell?

You: unplugged

You: and cellphone

Kelly: Thank you for being a loyal customer to Bell.

You: I'm just curious what technology the rural 2Mbps uses

Kelly: May I please have your complete address with the street number, name, Apt/suite, city and the postal code so that I could check for the Rural Internet service at your location?

You: Is it the same as unplugged internet because I have that

Kelly: We don't have the privilege to access the existing accounts.

Kelly: Could you please give me the address, so that I will validate for the service availability?

You: question: is the 2Mbps service the same as the unplugged service?

Kelly: You will get the modem installed out side the home.

Kelly: Where it is not a portable modem.

You: so it is a wireless technology

Kelly: Yes, it is an wireless technology.

You: Can I get it faster than 2mbps?

You: and with what amount of bandwidth?

Kelly: I request you to give me your address to validate the service in your location?

Kelly: I have to check the address for sure before explaining the plan details.

You: I request that you answer my question

Kelly: I can understand your concerns.

Kelly: In Rural plan the speed is up to 2 Mbps.

You: I get up to 3Mbps (sometimes faster) with the unplugged, surely the newer network is capable of faster.

You: how much bandwidth per month?

Kelly: We have to validate the address before giving the information for Internet service.

Kelly: I request you to give the address to check the validation?

You: ... typical

You: this is the point where you say, "thank you for choosing bell, goodbye"

Kelly: If you give me the address I will validate and provide you more details of the plan.

You: lol

You: bye

I'm completely sick and tired of the latest trend of sticking a nearly useless solar panel on a product and passing it off as a 'green' product. I blogged earlier about that robotic lawnmower with the 'stupid bait' solar panel on it. Well, apparently the latest thing with a 'stupid bait' solar panel is Christmas lights.

That's right! Just today I saw a commercial on tv for solar powered LED Christmas lights!!! Now, I could understand if these were being marketed to people for locations that were far away from a working power outlet. However, the commercial showed people happily putting all of these lights all over their house that has easily accessible outlets. Now, you have to remember that these are LED lights. I doubt that a whole string of those would surpass a few watts. (that's less than one light bulb inside your house) Never mind those details though, People are going to buy these in droves because it will give them the warm fuzzy feeling of saving the environment as they put up their newfangled solar power Christmas lights while their perfectly good set of power efficient LED Christmas lights from last year sit in the basement. If you are stupid enough to buy into this kind of marketing then you deserve to waste your money on that kind of garbage. That's why I call them stupid bait solar cells! Are you going to take it hook line and sinker?
