Anyone interested in the well-being/survival of the American wild horse, may want to visit the links below.

Currently, the BLM has proposed a plan to "euthanize" the wild horses they've rounded up claiming that they can't afford to feed them. Although there are currently only around 30,000 wild horses on the range (as compared to 3 million grazing cattle), they claim that allowing them to "breed unchecked would create an environmental crisis" (ridiculous). (In point of fact, the BLM has more horses in confinement than presently roam free.)

Acting against the principles of the federal law enacted in 1971 to protect these animals considered by many to be a national treasure, the BLM has been rounding them up en masse, keeping them penned in unacceptable conditions, and selling them in auctions to the highest bidder (in some cases, for slaughter - horsemeat is used in some pet food).

The BLM is supposed to meet this September to discuss its proposed plan.

A petition is circulating to stop that plan.

You can get some more information at http://blog.blue-green-marble.org/2008/07/save-the-wild-mustangs/ .

That article has a link to the petition which can be signed online as well as a list of other sites offering even more information.

Or you can go to the petitionsite directly at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/266046279?z00m=15681233 .

They currently have 22,863 signatures of the 30,000 they are seeking.
