A Tribute & A Plea

Tomorrow marks one year since my fathers body stopped working...

My Dad was a superb example of what a Dad should be...

he loved me unconditionally
he never belittled me
he believed in me
he made me laugh
he wanted to be involved in "my world"
he told me stories about my "Cave Family"
he taught me to always look at the bright side
he told me I could do anything I set my mind to

the list goes on...but as I sit here remembering the times in my life when my Dad showed me how much he loved me these things bring a smile to my face:

He painted a rainbow on my bedroom wall so I could feel happy in my room.

He let me help him when he painted cars and never let me think that what he was doing wasnt something that, as a female, I couldnt or shouldnt do.

He spread rabbit poop under my window and put up a trip wire in front of it so any boys who came to my window would think twice the next time they tried to sneak his daughter out.

He lowered our minivan, put a custom flip-flop paint job on it, and put some thumpin woofers in the back....all so I would want him to chaperon me and my friends everywhere.

He figured out I wasnt really spending the night at my friends house and hunted me down at the after hours club downtown. He didn't yell, he didnt threaten, he didnt lecture....he just told me how disappointed he was that I lied about where I was going and went somewhere I knew he wouldnt approve of....and left it at that.

I miss him today more than yesterday...and I don't see this feeling going away. He made me who I am ..not just through his genetic contribution but through his guidance and the example he set.

For those of you who didn't know my Dad...he was amazing. His life was cut short by ALS (AKA - Lou Gherigs Disease). It was tragic.

Neurological diseases are more prevelant today than ever before. This is not a fluke. Environmental toxins are at least partly to blame. I believe mercury to be a major contributor. If you are not aware of how you or someone you know might be exposed to mercury here is a short list I came up with:

Tuna (especially albacore) and other seafood
Dental Fillings (silver fillings are actually mercury amalgam)
Air (from mercury emissions at factories, mines, etc.)
Water (mostly from dental offices polluting waste water)

Aside from the possibility of my fathers disease being related to mercury exposure....my daughter LUCY was born with multiple abnormalities which I am 99.9% sure are due to mercury exposure. I ate at least 1 can of albacore tuna a day while pregnant with her and had a mouth full of mercury fillings...

PLEASE educate yourself about mercury before its too late!
