My colleagues and I have been working on this site for Manchester University for the last couple of weeks, in time for it's launch at the House of Commons. If you're interested in the global warming situation, and how aviation relates to it, you may want to check it out. Also, let me know if you find any mistakes in there. :)

Every American should read this guy's biography... He is truly one of the greatest heroes in US history. Just be careful where you get the biography from, though... Ask the federal government or the mainstream media, and they'll doubtless tell you all about the many campaigns in which he fought valiantly for his country, that at the time of his death he was the most decorated marine in US history, and one of the few to be awarded the Medal of Honor twice. That he became vehemently anti-war would probably be a footnote, supplied in a tone that would suggest he perhaps had a touch of dementia later in his life. Find a more honest source, and you'll discover his admission that most of the campaigns he fought were not humanitarian affairs, or to protect America, but were acts of economic imperialism, bringing third world countries to their knees for the benefit American big business alone. And his most significant act of heroism: that he almost single handedly foiled an attempt by Wall Street industrialists to overthrow the US government and establish a Fascist dictatorship, one which would almost certainly have allied with the Axis powers during WW2, swinging the result in their favour. It is possible that without this man's existence, Americans would not be harping on about being the defining victors of WW2, but would be raising their arms in a Nazi salute, without a choice, to the Swastika Spangled Banner.

Karl Marx on Religion: Is Religion the Opiate of the Masses?

Did you ever wonder what that Karl Marx fella really meant when he said that religion was the opiate of the masses? A great analysis, definitely worth a read.

From the page: "For Marx, the problem lies in the obvious fact that an opiate drug fails to fix a physical injury - it merely helps you forget pain and suffering. This may be fine up to a point, but only as long as you are also trying to solve the underlying problems causing the pain. Similarly, religion does not fix the underlying causes of people's pain and suffering - instead, it helps them forget why they are suffering and gets them to look forward to an imaginary future when the pain will cease."
