D-Zest - For those who believe this page as the true Islam, please go read the Qur'an in its entirety. These people are NOT MUSLIMS since Islam is a religion that does not need "reform". It is our lack of understand that is the issue. It does NOT promote terrorism, it does NOT promote inequality of women.

For those in favour of the page, know that this isn't Islam. It is a modified version of it to fit your ideas and beliefs and not God's.

Sneakeasy -
Are these folks for real??

FROM THE WEBSITE:

***

"Taking our religion back one Muslim at a time
We believe in the re-interpretation of Islam for the 21st century where terrorism is not justified under any circumstances.

We believe in the separation of religion and state.

We believe that democracy is the best form of government.

We believe in the promotion of secularism in all forms of political activity.

We believe that equality for women is an inalienable right.

We believe that religion is a personal relationship between the individual and his or her God and is not to be forced on anyone."

***

So are these the "Moderate" Muslims brave enough to fight for change in their religion, and culture?

I have my doubts, since words are cheap, and the teachings of Islam encourage deception, and subversion, in the fight against the Infidel, and frown on the notion of the "Peaceful Muslim", but for now am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I applaud FMAT and those who came, but the turnout leaves much to be desired and nearly all of the primary Muslim "advocacy" groups (CAIR, AMC) failed to send delegates or participants.
Why?

IF as President Bush has stated, we are fighting a "tiny number of extremists who have hijacked Islam," then why aren't moderate Muslims standing up en-masse and defending there religion against these extremists if in-fact they are such a small minority?

The next person to answer this question will be the first.

Scrappy2 - Not sure i trust a group like this on just words i need to see actions . TALK IS CHEAP !

From the page: "The Coalition was created to eliminate broad base support for Islamic extremism and terrorism and to strengthen secular democratic institutions in the Middle East and the Muslim World by supporting Islamic reformation efforts.

The Coalition promotes a modern secular interpretation of Islam which is peace-loving, democracy-loving and compatible with other faiths and beliefs. The Coalition efforts are unique; it is the only mainstream American-Muslim organization willing to attack extremism and terrorism unambiguously. Unfortunately most other Muslim leaders and organizations believe that when it comes to terrorism, the end justifies the means.

Other Americans have spoken up against terrorism, but never before has this message come with such clarity from Muslims or Arabs. Muslims are the only ones who can solve the problem of terror in Islam, and sadly until the founding of this Coalition, they were the only group who had not definitively spoken up against the use of terror."
