Jesterwocky - What a load of shit. I love the dishonesty in the way this guy talks about wanting to open a dialogue with the posters of these comments, just to make himself feel better for having such fragile self esteem, and then smugly holds up some extremely tame criticism for ridicule by his insipid blogger buddies. "Hur, hur, look at these people who dare to offhandedly disagree with my taste in books and music!" Funny stuff. But the best part is where he reaches the inevitable conclusion that posters of negative comments are looking for *fame!* (Scroll down and read the comments, if you missed it.) Because... apparently this silly backwater of a blog is the talk of teh internets..? Talk about ego, geeze.

Comparing The Secret's laughably commercial "Law of Attraction" with Newton's Law of Gravity is another real gem. It's both sad and hilarious at the same time, and pretty indicative of the thought processes that went into this. But hey, I've got a bridge and a pack of magic beans I'd like to sell you if you're interested, buddy.

And for something slightly more constructive, yet no more charitable: even the best writers, performers, artists, whatever, are the recipients of criticism, be it to their face, or through sites that allow people to express their opinion, on a whim, with a few quick keystrokes. A hack like the author of this blog needs to cut the crap and learn to ignore negative comments that don't help him improve his craft, and then try to learn (*actually* learn, not pretend to learn to impress your friends) from the rest. You can ridicule commentators all you like, of course, but realize that posting in your little blog about them, where you control the environment and all your pals are around to back you up--it makes you seem ten times more petty and small-minded than the original detractors ever may have, and ten times *more* so if you try to disguise your vindictive attitude as some kind of moral crusade.

Yeesh. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's smug bastards verbally masturbating in public.

Oh, and I forgot, I'm famous now... Hi mom!!

From the page: "[It's hard for me to imagine how this person communicates when he is not trying to be tolerant! Although I do agree with him about Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass). Great stuff!]"

Tried to be tolerant - past tense. No imagination required.

Interesting and funny blog entry from someone who uses SU. How he has dealt with some of the negative comments he receives (either directly, or in response to his reviews).

From the page: "And there's one other benefit from StumbleUpon that I had not anticipated: The opportunity to practice breathing and non-judgment while reading some of the, how shall I say, er, interesting comments that people have left in response to some of my posts.

And, the interesting thing is that I really do mean interesting. Some (and I must emphasize SOME) of the comments, while insulting, judgmental and dismissive, contain truly valuable observations and insights."
